The 2022 Memorial Day Super Outbreak was a historic three day severe weather outbreak. There were a lot of violent tornadoes and strong tornadoes in this outbreak. This worst day of this outbreak was May 30 on Memorial Day. It lasted through May 29 to May 31. There was a total of 28 violent tornadoes. A ton of EF4s and EF5s destroyed some of the Midwest to Mid Atlantic Region. This outbreak went to Texas to Delaware. The total damage of the outbreak was about $9B and about 311 people died with 3,549 injuries.
Meteorological Synopsis[]
May 29
There was a moderate risk of severe weather according to the SPC in states of Kansas and Oklahoma and little parts of Texas. The strongest tornado was an EF4 tornado that destroyed near Kansas City and did some millions of damage of that town. The total day damage was $500M. There were a total of 96 tornadoes with only 1 violent tornado.
May 30
There was a high risk of severe weather according to the SPC covering states of Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana. The strongest tornadoes was six EF5 tornadoes and they did so much damage in a single day and the highest in a single day. There was one EF5 tornado that was near Paducah, KY and did major damage to the cities around it did near a billion of dollars of damage. Another EF5 was near St Louis and it did about one or two billion dollars in damage. The total day damage was $8B. There was a total of 324 tornadoes with 25 violent tornadoes.
May 31
There was a moderate risk of severe weather according to the SPC covering the states of Virginia and Maryland. This was the biggest tornado outbreak in the state of Virginia and Maryland. The strongest tornado was a EF5 and it went near Winchester and did some moderate to high damage to these towns. There was a total of 84 tornadoes with 2 violent tornadoes.
